KILELE Health Empowers Cancer Warriors & Caregivers Through Storytelling for Advocacy
March 13, 2025On February 13th, Kilele Health Association held its first-ever Support Group Meeting, creating a safe space for cancer survivors and caregivers to connect, share, and heal together through mental wellness coaching and mentorship.
Facilitated by Zeituni Ali, a certified psychologist, the session aimed to provide emotional support and practical guidance on navigating the challenges of cancer treatment and survivorship.
A Safe Space For Healing and Connection
Participants openly shared their personal stories, finding comfort in the realization that they are not alone. Some spoke about the overwhelming fear of diagnosis, others about the physical and emotional toll of treatment.
“This session reminded us that no one should walk this journey alone. The power of shared experiences and strong support system is immeasurable,” said Churchill Otieno, reflecting on the impact of the meeting.
With the support of Peter Nyette, a psychologist from Amani Counselling Center & Training Insitute, participants received psychosocial support tailored to their unique experiences and needs.
Key Discussions and Takeaways
Participants engaged on discussions around:
- Emotional resilience – Coping with the psychological toll of cancer.
- Mental well-being – Managing stress, anxiety, and depression.
- Peer support – Finding strength in shared experiences.
- Self-care & wellness – Prioritizing physical and emotional well-being during and after treatment.
Zeituni Ali emphasized the importance of psychosocial support in improving the quality of life and empowering cancer survivors and caregivers.
“Healing isn’t just about the body but the mind as well. Lean on each other, embrace self-compassion, and seek support when needed. Through connection and care, we empower ourselves and each other.”
Building a Community of Strength
The support group is part of KILELE Health’s broader mission to create a nurturing community for those affected by cancer.
By providing a consistent space for mentorship and emotional support, the initiative seeks to:
- Increase treatment adherence

With plans to hold regular sessions, KILELE Health is dedicated to ensuring that no one battles cancer alone.
