KILELE Health Trains Community Health Workers in Marsabit County to Boost HPV Vaccine Uptake
September 4, 2024In a significant effort to boost cervical cancer elimination in Embu County, KILELE Health Association made a substantial donation during the Multisectoral Clinic organized by the Embu County Professional Development Association (ECPDA) at St. Marks Kigari Teachers Training College on July 13, 2024.
This donation was crucial to the success of the cervical cancer screenings conducted at the event. Furthermore, cancer survivors trained by Amani Counselling in partnership with KILELE Health offered psychosocial support, sensitized on cervical cancer, and raised awareness on other types of cancer to the public.
KILELE Health’s contribution was driven by its ongoing Thamani Yetu Project, an initiative dedicated to combating cervical cancer in Embu County. The project focuses on community education, supporting the vaccination of girls aged 10-14 years, and providing high-performance screenings for women.
During the clinic, KILELE Health donated a range of essential medical supplies, including:
- Disposable V Speculums
- Acetic Acid
- Orange Sticks
- Hand Towel
- Hand Wash Soaps
- Tissue Paper Roll
- Sanitary Towels
- Disposable Apron
- Jik Detergent
These supplies facilitated the screening of 28 women for cervical cancer. Of these, 23 women were tested using the pap smear method, and 5 were screened via Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA). Notably, one VIA screening resulted in a positive diagnosis, with the patient receiving immediate treatment through thermal ablation.
The success of KILELE Health’s contribution highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in healthcare. The organization’s donation not only supported the immediate needs of the clinic but also provided valuable resources for ongoing cervical cancer prevention efforts in Embu County.
KILELE Health’s commitment to improving public health through targeted donations and support underscores the profound impact such initiatives can have on local communities.
